Il centro romano, guidato dai due consoli, Marco Attilio Regolo e Lucio Manlio Vulsone in formazione a V. In alto, appena al largo della costa siciliana, si vede la sinistra cartaginese che incombe.
In V formation the Roman center, led by the two consuls, Marcus Regulus and Lucius Manlius Vulso. At the top, just off the coast of Sicily, you see the Carthaginian left looming.

Il centro romano, guidato dai consoli nelle loro esareme, insegue, separandosi dalla retroguardia che resta al palo (destra).
The Punic ploy unfolds! The Carthaginian center (left) moves back. The Roman center, led by the consuls in their exaremes, gives chase, separating itself from the rearguard (right).
Il centro romano, guidato da Regolo e Vulsone, si scontra con il centro cartaginese. I romani usano la loro sperimentata tattica del corvo, ma qualcosa non va per il verso giusto, una pentera romana viene catturata (al centro con la bandierina blu), mentre un altro abbordaggio si protrae senza un risultato decisivo. Un paio di navi sono in fiamme a causa dei tiri appena precedenti lo scontro!
The Roman center, led by Regulus and Vulso, collides with the Carthaginian center. The Romans use their proven tactic of the crow, but something does not go their way, a Roman quinquiremes is soon captured (in the middle with blue flag), while another boarding rages without a decisive result. A couple of ships are on fire because of the shooting that just preceded the clash!
L'azione al centro si fa ancora più congestionata, lo scontro protratto si conclude con la cattura di un'altra nave romana, ma una seconda pentera sopraggiunge e la espugna ai catturatori punici (al centro con la bandierina rossa). Un altro abbordaggio si protrae senza vinti ne vincitori mentre (al centro) la faccenda si fa ingarbugliata: i romani riescono a catturare una nave nemica, che però è in fiamme, mentre sono avvinti con la catturatrice cartaginese di un'altra nave romana, anch'essa in fiamme!
The action in the center is even more congested, the protracted battle ends with the capture of another Roman ship, but a second quinquireme comes and conquers the Punic captors (in the middle with the red flag). Another boarding goes on with no winners and losers while the center is where it gets messy: the Romans manage to capture an enemy ship, but it is in flames, while they themselves are entwined with the Carthaginian captor of another Roman ship, even this one on fire!

Questo non rallenta l'azione del resto della squadra, continuano furibondi i corpi a corpo, una delle pentere catturate dai romani cambia di mano (in basso con la bandiera blu).
This does not slow down the action of the rest of the squadron, the melees furiously go on, one of the quinquireme captured earlier by the Romans changes hands (below with the blue flag).
Il tavolo alla fine della partita. Sullo sfondo il centro romano, decimato, è circondato da agguerriti cartaginesi mentre (in primo piano) la sinistra cartaginese sta chiudendo sulla retroguardia che, appesantita dalle navi onerarie, non sembra in grado di reagire adeguatamente. Visto il numero di perdite subite sembra difficile che i romani possano ribaltare la situazione.
